Are There Too Many Radio Presenters?

We were approached by an out-of-work presenter about a job he had just been offered.

On an internet-only station. Five days per week. For free.

The sell was “It will keep you fresh and in the market place”.

Will it?

Is it a good idea to take a non-paying gig on a station with a minimal audience…just to stay relevant? What do you think?

Does this sort of scenario dilute your value and take away from all that you have already accomplished in the past in your radio career?

Is the amount of people willing to work for free bringing down the overall standard?

Is it a step forwards or backward…or is it a ‘holding pattern’?
